Commitment
by Barbito's Corner
What is commitment? It is a term used every day we use loosely all the time but I question whether or not people really understand what it means and what actually comes with it. Relationships, responsibilities, jobs, projects, and activities all require some level of commitment. Commitment is to be dedicated to the agreement that you have made. Commitment deals with a sustained alliance to whatever the agreement is whether it is always convenient for you, sometimes convenient for you, or never convenient for you. Commitment establishes a determined trust on the basis of your dedication to the agreement. Commitment allows others to rely and depend on you to maintain your end of the bargain.
People today make changing commitments because they never understood what commitment really was. This happens too often in relationships and marriages. Those involved never discuss the details of what they are committing to and assume that the other party knows. So when these relationships and marriages fail or become unstable, it creates bitterness and distrust on a more generalized basis.
I’m not saying that laying out everything expected in every commitment would make people aware to the point that they would not violate that commitment. But what I am saying is that by laying out the details and being more specific, it can reduce the assumptions and many of the problems that occur with commitments that change with time…
